SUMMARY:Journal Club du LPTMS: Ricardo Marino - LPTMS\, salle 201\, 2ème
 étage\, Bât 100\, Campus d'Orsay - 11 Fév 13 12:30
DESCRIPTION:Temporal Effects in the Growth of Networks\nRicardo Marino\, Ph
D student LPTMS\nThis article explores a very interesting model in random
graphs for preferential attachment with time-decaying properties\, ideal f
or problems in which "popularity" decays over time (for instance\, article
  citations).\nhttp://prl.aps.org/abstract/PRL/v107/i23/e238701\nMatúš Me
do\, Giulio Cimini\, and Stanislao Gualdi\nAbstract of the article : We sh
ow that to explain the growth of the citation network by preferential atta
chment (PA)\, one has to accept that individual nodes exhibit heterogeneou
s fitness values that decay with time. While previous PA-based models assu
med either heterogeneity or decay in isolation\, we propose a simple analy
tically treatable model that combines these two factors. Depending on the
input assumptions\, the resulting degree distribution shows an exponential
\, log-normal or power-law decay\, which makes the model an apt candidate
for modeling a wide range of real systems.
