DESCRIPTION:Classical systems with inhomogeneous Boltzmann weights\nJean-Ma
 rie Stéphan (LPENSL\, Lyon)\n&nbsp\;\n\nMany quantum systems lack transla
 tion invariance and are inherently inhomogeneous: one can think of bosons 
 or fermions in slowly varying confining potentials\, or tight binding mode
 ls with space-dependent hoppings\, motivated in part by entanglement studi
 es. In this talk I will discuss a similar situation which can occur in sta
 tistical mechanical models at criticality\, and investigate their descript
 ion by combining simple field theory and hydrodynamics ideas. I will illus
 trate this on two exactly solvable models in two dimensions\, the Ising an
 d six vertex model with various boundary conditions. If time permits I wil
 l also discuss a related quantum circuit problem.
