SUMMARY:Physics-Biology interface seminar: Anne-Florence Bitbol - LPTMS\, s
 alle 201\, 2ème étage\, Bât 100\, Campus d'Orsay - 13 Juin 16 11:00
DESCRIPTION:Inferring interaction partners from protein sequences\nAnne-Flo
rence Bitbol (Laboratoire Jean Perrin\, UPMC)\nSPECIAL LOCATION (due to re
novation work at LPS)\nSpecific protein-protein interactions play crucial
roles in the stability of multi-protein complexes and in signal transducti
on. Thus\, mapping these interactions is key to a systems-level understand
ing of cells. However\, systematic experimental identification of protein
interaction partners is still challenging\, while a large and rapidly grow
ing amount of sequence data is now available. Is it possible to identify w
hich proteins interact just from their sequences? We propose an approach b
ased on sequence covariation\, building on methods used with success to pr
edict the three-dimensional structures of proteins from sequences alone. O
ur method identifies specific interaction partners with high accuracy amon
g the members of two ubiquitous prokaryotic protein families\, and paves t
he way to identifying novel protein-protein interactions directly from seq
 uence data.\n
