SUMMARY:Physics-Biology interface seminar: Aurélien Bancaud - Amphi BLANDI
N du LPS de la Faculté des Sciences d’Orsay (Bâtiment 510) - 8 Nov 13
 14:00
DESCRIPTION:Conformation and dynamics of DNA in confined environments: cros
s-talk between chromosomes in the nucleus and polymers in nanochannels\nAu
 rélien Bancaud (Laboratoire d'analyse et d'architecture des systèmes\, T
oulouse)\n\nGenome structure and dynamics attacts considerable attention i
n the biology community to eludicate genome regulation principles\, but al
so for biological physicists who aim to develop models of DNA in vivo. The
challenges of this research is conceptual but also economical because of
expected impact of DNA sequencing or DNA microarrays technologies in perso
nalized diagnostics.\nOur research is carried out at the nexus of technolo
gy and biology and aims to provide a physical description of the genome st
ructural properties. We will first overview our results on chromosome dyna
mics in living yeast\, showing the unexpected flexibility of these structu
res in vivo. We will then focus on new methods for chromosome analysis in
vitro based on micro- and nano-fluidics\, and we will finally emphasize th
at that these two topics are not so unrelated\, given that the physics of
DNA confined environment can be used as a common research framework.\n
