SUMMARY:Physics-Biology interface seminar: Emmanuel de Langre - Moyen Amphi
 \, Building 510\, Université Paris-Saclay Orsay - 4 Avr 18 11:00
DESCRIPTION:Plant vibration\, from wind flutter to phenotyping\nEmmanuel d
 e Langre (École polytechnique\, Palaiseau\, France)\n\nPlants are often
very flexible objects. This results in motion under stimuli such as wind
or currents\, but also hosts such as insects. Motion are known to influenc
e plant development by thigmomorphogenesis. I will review methodologies
and results from the past ten years\, aimed at quantifying and understan
ding the vibration of plants\, or parts of plants\, from Arabidopsis Thali
ana to large trees. I will focus on experimental techniques indoor and ou
tdoor\, on simple models of motions\, and the role of the plant architect
ure. The recent application to high throughput plant phenotyping by vibrat
ions will also be presented. \n
