SUMMARY:Physics-Biology interface seminar: Éric Raspaud - Moyen Amphi\, Bu
 ilding 510\, Université Paris-Saclay Orsay - 14 Fév 14 14:00
DESCRIPTION:Elasticity and wrinkled morphology of Bacillus subtilis pellicl
es\nÉric Raspaud (LPS Orsay)\nBacterial biofilms refer to communities of
bacteria that self-assemble into an extracellular cohesive matrix on a sur
face. We are recently interested in floating biofilms formed by wild strai
ns of Bacillus subtilis on liquid medium. Wrinkles appear during their mat
uration. We have studied the formation of wrinkles in relation to their me
chanical property and have shown that they could be due to a buckling inst
ability. In this talk I will present our experimental results and their th
 eoretical interpretations.\n[caption id="attachment_22671" align="aligncen
