SUMMARY:Physics-Biology interface seminar: Tuomas Knowles - Salle des sémi
 naires du FAST et du LPTMS\, bâtiment Pascal n°530 - 20 Nov 19 13:30
DESCRIPTION:Probing proteins in small volumes\nTuomas Knowles (Cambridge Un
iversity\, UK)\nWarning: special time\nThis talk outlines our efforts on e
xploring experimental strategies to provide a new window into protein self
-assembly that are enabled by operation in small volumes. We have shown th
at microconfinement achieved through droplet microfluidics allows the isol
ation of single nucleation events in protein aggregation and thus to study
a rare event as single molecule resolution. Using this strategy we have a
lso been able to develop an understanding of how aberrant misfolded protei
n states are transmitted from one molecule to another through time and spa
ce. More recently we have exploited measurements of mass transport through
fluid streams under laminar flow conditions to generate a platform for pr
obing protein-protein interactions under fully native conditions.
