SUMMARY:Séminaire du LPTMS: Frédéric van Wijland - LPTMS\, salle 201\, 2
 ème étage\, Bât 100\, Campus d'Orsay - 8 Nov 16 11:00
DESCRIPTION:How far from equilibrium is active matter?\nFrédéric van Wijl
and (Laboratoire Matière et Systèmes Complexes\, Université Paris 7 Den
is Diderot)\nActive Matter in 2016 encompasses such a broad range of syste
ms that it is almost a challenge to define what's behind this terminology.
One of the unifying characteristics to all active systems is that individ
ual constituents convert an external continuous supply of energy into rand
om motion. On a representative model of an active system\, we will explain
how\, by looking at the movie of its time evolution\, one can tell whethe
r\, and how far\, the system lies away from equilibrium. We will also prov
ide a microscopics based explanation of some of the macroscopic effects th
at are specific to active particle systems.\n\nReference :\n\nÉ. Fodor\,
