DESCRIPTION:Semi-classical and quantum effects in curved metrics\nGiovanni 
 Acquaviva\, University of Trento\nSince the work by Hartle and Hawking\, b
 lack hole spacetimes constituted an excellent playground for the study of 
 quantum effects in curved metrics: in this context a great deal of theoret
 ical tools have been employed in order to unveil the connections between g
 eneral relativity and the quantum realm.  In the seminar I will present t
 wo approaches that allow to highlight this aspect: i) the semi-classical t
 unneling method and ii) the quantum field-theoretical modeling of Unruh-De
 Witt detectors.  One of the open questions in this field regards the ever
 present role of thermodynamics: does it just constitutes a parallel arisin
 g from a fundamentally statistical treatment?  Or is there some more prof
 ound link?
