DESCRIPTION:Solitons and nonlinearity with trapped ions\nHaggai Landa\, LPT
 MS\nSolitons are ubiquitous in many areas of physics and the natural scien
 ces. Quantum dynamics of solitons\, however\, has proven experimentally ch
 allenging to measure. A system in which state-of-the-art quantum control o
 ver individual degrees of freedom has been demonstrated is the ion trap\, 
 where\, due to the time-dependent trapping fields and the Coulomb interact
 ion\, trapped ions manifest rich nonlinear dynamics. I will present some t
 heoretical work and collaboration with experimental groups from recent yea
 rs\, focusing in particular on the study of discrete solitons with trapped
  ions\, and more generally\, other nonlinear phenomena\, both classical an
 d quantum mechanical.
