SUMMARY:Séminaire du LPTMS: Igor Ferrier-Barbut - Salle des séminaires du
  FAST et du LPTMS\, bâtiment Pascal n°530 - 5 Nov 19 11:00
DESCRIPTION:Light scattering by cold atomic arrays\, towards quantum simula
 tion of dissipative many-body physics\nIgor Ferrier-Barbut (LCF\, Institut
d’Optique)\n\nSingle atom trapping using tightly focused optical tweeze
rs has emerged as a new versatile experimental platform. Optical holograph
ic techniques allow to engineer 1\, 2 or 3D ensembles of atoms in vacuum\,
that have an almost arbitrary geometry and are nearly free of defects. Ty
pically\, these techniques are combined with an excitation of the atoms to
Rydberg states\, that allow to engineer an interaction between the indivi
dual atoms\, realizing quantum simulators for quantum many-body physics. I
n this presentation I will focus on our progress to study dissipative quan
tum many-body systems in such platforms. For this we use light-induced res
 onant dipole-dipole interactions between two-level atoms\, which contain b
oth a conservative and dissipative part. We will present first experiments
where we were able to increase the effect of such interactions\, and pros
pects to reach the strongly interacting regime.\n\n
