SUMMARY:Séminaire du LPTMS: Jean-Baptiste Delfau - LPTMS\, salle 201\, 2è
 me étage\, Bât 100\, Campus d'Orsay - 28 Mar 17 11:00
DESCRIPTION:A counter-intuitive case of spontaneous aggregation : crystals
of clusters\nJean-Baptiste Delfau (Universitat de les Illes Balears\, Palm
a de Mallorca\, Spain)\n\n\nParticles interacting via purely repulsive sof
t-core potentials can spontaneously aggregate\, despite repelling each oth
er\, and form periodic crystals of particle clusters. We studied this phen
omenon - relevant to colloidal or polymer solutions - for passive (Brownia
 n) and active (self-propelling) particles at two levels of description: pe
rforming numerical simulations of the discrete particle dynamics\, and by
linear and nonlinear analysis of the corresponding Dean-Kawasaki equations
for the macroscopic particle density. In this seminar\, I will explain wh
at are the mechanisms of the instability leading to clustering which turn
out to be the interplay between diffusion or self-propulsion\, the intracl
uster forces and the forces between neighboring clusters.\n\n\nReferences
