SUMMARY:Séminaire du LPTMS: Liza Huijse - LPTMS\, salle 201\, 2ème étage
 \, Bât 100\, Campus d'Orsay - 18 Fév 14 11:00
DESCRIPTION:Emergent supersymmetry at the Ising-Kosterlitz-Thouless multicr
 itical point\nLiza Huijse\, Stanford University\nSupersymmetry is a powerf
ul concept in high-energy physics\, but is often thought to require too mu
ch fine-tuning to be relevant for condensed matter systems. However\, in t
his talk\, I will show that supersymmetry emerges in a large class of mode
ls with a Z2 and U(1) symmetry at the multicritical point where the Ising
and Kosterlitz-Thouless transition coincide. To arrive at this result we p
erformed a detailed renormalization group analysis of the multicritical th
eory including all perturbations allowed by symmetry. I will sketch this a
nalysis and show how it reveals an intricate flow diagram with a marginall
y irrelevant direction that preserves part of the supersymmetry of the fix
ed point. The flow along this special line is very slow and we discuss the
  implications of this slow flow.
