SUMMARY:Seminaire du LPTMS : Mélanie Lebental (LUMIN) - Salle des séminai
 res du FAST et du LPTMS\, bâtiment Pascal n°530 - 23 Nov 21 11:00
DESCRIPTION:Quantum chaos and geodesics: towards non-euclidean photonics\nM
 élanie Lebental (LUMIN)\nOnsite seminar + zoom (Meeting ID: 984 4152 4540
\, Passcode: p5WA0A).\n\nQuantum chaos is a research field dedicated to s
 emiclassical physics [1\,2]\, i.e. the relationship\nbetween a quantum sys
tem and its classical counterpart. The predictions are investigated in\nan
 y wave system\, namely quantum\, acoustics\, microwaves\, optics\,… Micr
olasers are a good platform to implement the predictions of quantum chaos.
Reciprocally\, semi-classical physics provides efficient theoretical tool
s to optimize photonic devices\, in particular the "trace formula" which d
escribes the spectrum as a sum over periodic classical trajectories. I wil
l review some of these results [3] and discuss on-going works on bifurcati
on theory and the corresponding microlaser experiments.\n\nRecently it bec
ame possible to fabricate three-dimensionnal (3D) microlasers with high op
tical\nquality by direct laser writing [4]\, in particular curved surface-
like microlasers\, leading to\nthe emerging domain of non-Euclidean photon
ics. Actually\, the shortest path between\ntwo points within a curved surf
ace is not the straight line anymore\, but is called a "geodesic".\nThe co
rresponding trace formula should then be a sum over periodic geodesics. We
checked this hypothesis with Möbius strip microlasers and provided exper
imental and numerical evidences that the laser modes were indeed located a
 long periodic geodesics [5].\n\n[1] M. Brack and R. K. Bhaduri\, Semiclass
