DESCRIPTION:Strong-coupling ansatz for the one-dimensional Fermi gas in a h
 armonic potential\nJesper Levinsen (Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies\,
  Aarhus University)\nThe one-dimensional (1D) Fermi gas with repulsive sho
 rt-range interactions provides an important model of strong correlations a
 nd is often amenable to exact methods. However\, in the presence of confin
 ement\, no exact solution is known for an arbitrary number of strongly int
 eracting fermions. Here\, we propose a novel ansatz for generating the low
 est-energy wavefunctions of the repulsive 1D Fermi gas in a harmonic poten
 tial near the Tonks-Girardeau limit of infinite interactions. We specializ
 e to the case of a single $\\down$ particle interacting with $N_\\up$ part
 icles\, where we may derive analytic forms of the approximate wavefunction
 s. Comparing with exact numerics\, we show that the overlap between the wa
 vefunctions from our ansatz and the exact ones in the ground-state manifol
 d exceeds $0.9997$ for $N_\\up\\leq8$. Moreover\, the overlap for the grou
 nd-state wavefunction at strong repulsion extrapolates to $\\sim0.9999$ as
  $N_\\up\\to\\infty$. Thus\, our ansatz is essentially indistinguishable f
 rom numerically exact results in both the few- and many-body limits.\n\nRe
