SUMMARY:Séminaire exceptionnelle du LPTMS: Leo Radzihovsky - LPTMS\, salle
  201\, 2ème étage\, Bât 100\, Campus d'Orsay - 7 Juin 19 11:00
DESCRIPTION:Fracton-elasticity duality\nLeo Radzihovsky (University of Colo
rado\, Boulder)\nI will discuss a recent discovery that elasticity theory
of a two-dimensional crystal is dual to a fracton tensor gauge theory\, pr
oviding a concrete realization of the fracton phenomenon. The disclination
s and dislocations respectively map onto charges and dipoles of the tensor
gauge theory. The fractionalized mobility of fractons matches the constra
ined dynamics of lattice defects. This duality leads to predictions for fr
actonic phases and phase transitions\, such as the counterparts to the com
mensurate crystal\, supersolid\, hexatic\, and isotropic fluid phases of t
he elasticity theory. Extensions of this duality to generalized elasticity
theories provide a route to discovery of new fracton models.
