DESCRIPTION:The diversity of evolutionary rates\nJakub Otwinowski (Departme
 nt of Biology\, University of Pennsylvania\, Philadelphia)\nWe have eviden
 ce of evolution happening over billions of years\, yet we have little unde
 rstanding of how long it takes for anything to evolve. In other words\, we
  often do not understand quantitatively what affects the rate of evolution
  over long time-scales. I will show how spatial structure can impede the r
 ate of evolution with a model related to surface growth physics. The fitne
 ss landscape is also an important factor in the rate of evolution\, and I 
 will discuss how it can be approximated from high-throughput sequence-func
 tion experiments. Finally\, I show how the rate of evolution can be define
 d in coevolving populations with non-equilibrium measures of adaptation.\n
