{"id":45,"date":"2018-08-20T16:08:01","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T14:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lptms.u-psud.fr\/maurizio-fagotti\/?page_id=45"},"modified":"2021-02-11T09:26:17","modified_gmt":"2021-02-11T08:26:17","slug":"jobs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lptms.universite-paris-saclay.fr\/maurizio-fagotti\/jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"Jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Applications are invited for <strong><span style=\"color: #333300\">postdoctoral<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff9900\">doctoral<\/span> positions<\/strong> in theoretical physics in the\u00a0Laboratoire de Physique Th\u00e9orique et Mod\u00e8les Statistiques (LPTMS, Orsay &#8211; France).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The positions are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) within the project LoCoMacro (Local Control of Macroscopic Properties in Isolated Many-body Quantum Systems), presented by Maurizio Fagotti in the 2018 call for ERC starting grants.<\/p>\n<p>The research project is focused on\u00a0the study of the effects of inhomogeneities in out-of-equilibrium systems following a so-called global quench. This is the nonequilibrium time evolution of states with energy extensively higher than the ground state one, for which time evolution generally results in an emergent statistical description. A distinctive feature of LoCoMacro is the interest\u00a0in the global effects of inhomogeneities localized in a small part of the system. The project covers both exactly solvable models, which are primarily attacked with analytical methods, and generic systems, for which numerical investigations are more suitable.\u00a0The group of research will have heterogeneous skills, and knowledge exchange will be a key aspect of the activity.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidates will work with Maurizio Fagotti and will benefit from the stimulating research environment of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lptms.u-psud.fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LPTMS<\/a>, which is a young theoretical physics laboratory, markedly oriented towards statistical physics. Being a\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">joint research unit between CNRS and Paris-Sud University, the laboratory has access to\u00a0computing facilities such us the\u00a0Paris-Sud \u201ccomputing mesocenter\u201d, and, for large scale computations, \u00a0national facilities such as IDRIS.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"><br \/>\n<\/span>Paris-Sud University is internationally recognised for the quality of fundamental research (mathematics, physics); in 2020, Paris-Saclay University rose to 9th place in the world in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shanghairanking.com\/Shanghairanking-Subject-Rankings\/physics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shanghai ranking 2020<\/a> of the world universities in the subject of Physics.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 20\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The candidates should\u00a0be interested in the physics of low-dimensional systems out of equilibrium, and they should have a good knowledge of quantum mechanics and theoretical physics.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333300\">If interested in\u00a0analytical investigations, the candidates for the postdoctoral positions are expected to have a\u00a0basic knowledge of some analytic techniques to deal with many-body quantum systems in 1D; a background in quantum integrable systems is a plus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333300\">If interested in numerical investigations, the candidates for the postdoctoral positions are expected be familiar with numerical methods to investigate time evolution in 1D many-body quantum systems (especially, tensor network techniques); the ideal candidate is an independent researcher who is willing to improve the existent methods and possibly develop new techniques to\u00a0efficiently attack out-of-equilibrium problems without translational invariance.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333300\">The postdoctoral positions are available for <strong>two years<\/strong>, with possible extensions.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #333300\">Salary will follow the standard regulations of the CNRS and will depend on experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900\">The doctoral positions are available for <strong>three years<\/strong>. The gross salary is\u00a02135 \u20ac per month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the salary, a generous support for travels is provided.<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #333300\"><em>Applicants for the postdoctoral positions should provide a CV,\u00a0<\/em><em>a concise\u00a0motivation letter, and\u00a0<\/em><em>a list of publications, including a selection of two or three publications where the relevance of the work is discussed and the\u00a0contribution of the applicant is highlighted. The applicants should also arrange for\u00a0two or more recommendation letters.<\/em><\/span><\/h6>\n<h6><span style=\"color: #ff9900\"><em>Applicants for the doctoral positions should provide a CV,\u00a0<\/em><em>a concise\u00a0motivation letter, and a list of the master exam marks<\/em><em>.
