DESCRIPTION:Emergent Patterns from Predator-Prey Taxis Promote Diversity\nG
 iulia Lorenzana (University of Chicago)\nMany organisms have the ability t
 o move in response to external stimuli. We study the effect of inter-speci
 fic taxis on the organization and diversity of complex ecosystems. We show
  that random predator-prey taxis can destabilize a homogeneous state and l
 ead to the formation of dynamical patterns even when ecological interactio
 ns are weak. For stronger ecological interactions\, this self-generated sp
 atial heterogeneity permits the coexistence of a number of species well be
 yond what would be possible in a homogeneous state\, but only if species m
 ove “rationally”. In this diverse patterned state\, clusters of high d
 ensity and low diversity\, composed of a fixed clique of species\, form an
 d coalesce.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;
