SU(N) ferromagnets and their intricate phase structure
Alexios Polychronakos (CUNY, USA)
Magnetic systems with higher internal SU(N) symmetry have recently been experimentally realized in ultracold atoms and interacting atoms on lattice cites. Although the theoretical study of their microscopic spectrum and dynamics is challenging, their thermodynamics in the ferromagnetic regime can be exactly derived using pure group theoretic techniques. I will give an overview of SU(N) ferromagnets, derive their thermodynamics and phase structure in the presence of external nonabelian magnetic fields, and present recent results for atoms with a generalized internal structure.
