Classical systems with inhomogeneous Boltzmann weights

Jean-Marie Stéphan (LPENSL, Lyon)

Many quantum systems lack translation invariance and are inherently inhomogeneous: one can think of bosons or fermions in slowly varying confining potentials, or tight binding models with space-dependent hoppings, motivated in part by entanglement studies. In this talk I will discuss a similar situation which can occur in statistical mechanical models at criticality, and investigate their description by combining simple field theory and hydrodynamics ideas. I will illustrate this on two exactly solvable models in two dimensions, the Ising and six vertex model with various boundary conditions. If time permits I will also discuss a related quantum circuit problem.
