26th July 2021 : Lectureships in Applied Mathematics at Bristol

Dear Colleagues,

Please bring the following position(s) to the attention of any suitable
candidates

*Lecturer in Applied Mathematics*

The School of Mathematics, University of Bristol, is seeking to appoint
one or more Lecturers in Applied Mathematics. Applied Mathematics in the
UK includes subject areas such as theoretical soft matter, fluids and
continuum mechanics. A Lecturer holds an indefinite appointment roughly
equivalent to an Assistant or Associate Professor in the US system
(depending on career stage).

The School of Mathematics is in a substantial Grade-II listed property,
providing office space for over 100 academics, 100 post-graduate
students and 80 post-docs, and is a state-of-the-art mathematics
teaching and research facility. The University is a member of the
prestigious Russell Group and is ranked among the top 10 universities in
the UK in the latest QS World University Rankings.  It has strong links
with the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, which focuses on
discrete mathematics and funds about 20 postdoctoral fellows in the
School of Mathematics

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding applied
mathematician/theoretical physicist, in the broadest sense, that will
support or complement the research activities of the Institute for
Applied Mathematics in the School of Mathematics at the University of
Bristol. Currently, the Institute has research activity in soft matter,
theoretical biophysics, complex materials, dynamical systems and fluid
dynamics. A characteristic of the Institute is its outward looking
approach to research, indicated by the fact that all of these areas
benefit from collaboration outside the Institute, both within the School
of Mathematics, and University wide.

The post-holder will be responsible for her or his own research
programme, carry out appropriate administrative tasks and deliver
excellence in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
We welcome applications from all members of our community and are
particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of
the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
The School of Mathematics is a supporter of the LMS Good Practice Scheme
aiming at advancing women’s careers in mathematics and we therefore
particularly welcome applications from women for this post.

Institute Director Prof. Stephen Wiggins (s.wiggins@bristol.ac.uk).

I am also happy to answer any questions you have.
