Collision of two vortices (yellow dots) in a quantum flow. The saddles (yellow diamonds) initially get closer then drift apart so that the 2 vortices and the 2 saddles eventually annihilate simultaneously, thus conserving both the total vorticity and the total (Poincaré) index.
